Looking gorgeous on your wedding day is likely your main concern, hiring a skilled and talented makeup artist will put your worries to rest. No two makeup artists are the same, so it is imperative to your search that you locate the right makeup artist for the type of look you are going for.

Step 1 – Find an Inspiration Photo
Do you know exactly how you want your wedding makeup to look? Do you have an inspiration photo to show to your makeup artist? If you don’t have an inspiration photo, find one in order to avoid perception and communications issues with your makeup artist. You can find an inspiration photo in magazines and through internet searches.

Step 2 – Locate Local Makeup Artists
You can locate a makeup artist through an internet search, the Yellow Book and word of mouth referrals. This helps reduce the amount of “travelling” expenses charged by out of town artists.

Step 3 – Ask to See a Portfolio
Scan the makeup artist’s portfolio; if the makeup artist has looks that are similar to your inspiration photo hire her/him, if not keep searching for a makeup artist that has enough experience creating your desired wedding makeup look.

Step 4 – Go for a Trial
Make sure you trial out all the artists you have shortlisted (2 or 3) and check they make you feel relaxed and good about yourself as they will be the ones with you in the hours leading up to the big moment.
