Summer Hair Style and Fashion

Tip 1
Summer is the time for curls, movement and for having fun and being experimental with your hair. Right now it’s all about more voluminous curls and multi texture within styles. Girls with naturally curly hair should ditch the flat irons and make the most of what they’ve got. It’s time to throw the rule book out of the window, curls don’t have to be defined any more, in fact softer, more textured brushed out curls, as seen on the catwalks are the way to go.

Tip 2
Wash your hair only when necessary and make sure you give it a good rinse. If it’s feeling dry, a conditioning treatment once a week will do the trick. Towel dry the hair making sure not to disturb the curl too much. Add your favourite curl-defining product then allow to dry naturally, or diffuse depending on the British Summer! Once the hair is completely dry, try running your fingers from the roots through to ends. This will loosen the curls. If you’re feeling really brave and want the catwalk look use a comb for a more fluffy curl. You could also try sprinkling a small amount of talcum powder or make over spray on your roots for matt results.
This is also a top tip for oily roots on days two and three after washing your hair.

Tip 3
If you have very curly hair naturally and want a looser Sex and the City type curl, you could try combing the hair from root to tips every so often while the hair is drying, remember your styling cream first.

Tip 4
Girls with straight hair that want volume and movement dig out and dust off your old heated rollers and curling tongs.

Firstly apply some volume spray to damp hair. Smooth your hair with a paddle brush, then blast dry. Always use a nozzle and direct the airflow down the hair shaft.

Starting from the front hairline in the centre of your head begin adding the heated rollers, make sure you roll them with a good tension and sit each roller on top of its own section for max smoothness and height. Follow this system all the way to the back of your head. The thickness of each section will depend on the thickness of your hair.

Now do the sides making sure you cover all the hair. Apply some hairspray for extra hold and allow the rollers to cool completely.

Once cool, remove rollers, using a soft bristle brush gently brush all the hair back off your face removing any separation left by the rollers. Tip head up side down get your fingers in at the root and give your head a good shake out. Flip your head back add a little more hairspray and you should be ready to roll.

Tip 5
Pony tails are a quick and easy way to transform your look. Apply some wet look gel all around the hair line comb or brush back in to a tight high pony tail, secure and fluff up the ends with some back combing and hair spray for multi textured look. Very London Fashion Week. As an alternative you can tong, crimp or straighten the ends.

Stop Acne Forever

Leading research has found that the easiest and fastest way of achieving a glowing complexion is to eliminate the most common foods & ingredients that trigger skin breakouts, inflammation and allergic reactions – and ensure you include healthy fats into your diet.

These trigger foods include, but are not limited to:

- Gluten
- Soy
- Wheat
- Dairy

Simply experiment with removing these trigger foods from your diet for 28 days (the average time it takes for skin to shed and renew) and see how your skin looks. Sometimes, you only need to eliminate them for a short while to give your system a chance to detox, then gradually re-incorporate them (paying attention to how your skin reacts).

GOOD SKIN TIPS:

TIP 1: Eat great tasting food full of “healthy” fats.

TIP 2: Be sure to eat a “green food” diet
Chlorophyll = good skin health. Probably one of the best foods for skin, but the least consumed, are green foods.

Collards, kale, spinach, wheatgrass, sprouts…all of these foods include skin-loving chlorophyll and are alkaline, helping to naturally balance out any excess acid in our bodies that may be contributing to our skin problems.

Chlorophyll is the green coloring matter in plants, known also for its natural cleansing properties. It is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial agent. So, if you are suffering from breakouts, or even acne, try incorporating it into your diet.

The best way to consume chlorophyll is by eating greens as opposed to drinking liquid chlorophyll out of a bottle. This way, you benefit from all of its properties and minerals. The best food source of chlorophyll is spinach.

Don’t overcook your greens as that will lose the chlorophyll within it. Light steaming is the best way or just eat them raw (yes I know, not to everyone’s taste). If both of the above don’t appeal to you, then why not make a “green smoothie” and mix all the greens together mixed with a bit of ice cream? It does taste great!

TIP 3: Load up on antioxidants with the best Superfoods. Antioxidants have the ability to support the aging process by attacking free radicals. The best superfoods are goji berries, acai berries, mangosteen and noni. They all taste quite good and you can get most of these within “Innocent Smoothies” too.

TIP 4: Eat an adequate amount of high quality protein. Your skin, hair and nails are all rich in protein and require high quality protein to continue to function properly. Without protein your skin will become pale, dull and will age prematurely. Best source of protein is fish, eggs and chicken/turkey meat. Make sure your protein intake is part of a balanced meal as too much protein will have adverse effects on your blood sugar level.

TIP 5: Reduce your sugar intake to reduce your apperance of wrinkles. Research has shown that sugar is pro-inflammatory which means excess sugar causes inflammation in the body which leads to wrinkles. Pro-inflammatory foods to reduce in your diet are (sorry in advance); cakes, cookies, desserts, most breakfast cereals, breads, pastries, juice drinks (rather than fresh juice) and fizzy drinks.

TIP 6: Stay hydrated! Every cell, as well as every bodily and metbolic function in our body needs water. It is the most essential nutrient we consume and helps our skin more than anything I’ve mentioned above. Our skin is made up of 50-70% of water and a lack of it doesn’t take long to show up in the skin in the form of dry skin.

Did you know that puffy eyes and dark circles can be the result of water retention brought on by inadequate water consumption!?

The ideal amount of water to drink is to measure your body weight, divide by 2 and then divide the result by 8. This will give you a rough estimate of the number of 8 ounce glasses of water you should drink in a day. If you exercise, go outside on a sunny day or drink alcohol, drink more water to compensate.

How to make your skin glow

What is skin glow?
When the light falls on the skin, there is reflection (radiance) of light at the surface of skin (caused by skin oil), and from the sub-layers under the skin from pigments such as melanin and blood haemoglobin. This reflection makes our skin to glow. Lack of proper reflection makes us look older.

One of the best example is the ‘pregnancy glow’ that is caused by two factors: sudden increase in amount of blood creating reflection from sub-layers, and increased production of skin oil (due to hormonal changes) creating reflection from the surface of the skin.

As we age, the UV light damages the skin and the collagen. The light is not reflected properly and we look old.

Stress, lack of sleep and poor diet can also cause the skin to lose radiance.

How to make your skin glow?

1. Change your life style to include a balanced diet, lots of drinking water, rest, and enough sleep.

2. Choose foods high in antioxidants (fruits, veg, nuts and seeds), and Omega 3 fatty acids (fish).

3. Exfoliate skin regularly to remove dead cells. This increases light to penetrate and reflect from the sub-layers. Exfoliation also helps makes skin receptive to moisturisers. Yoghurt is an exfoliating agent.

4. Hydrate skin with moisturiser containing Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Honey helps with hydration and Lime juice (Vitamin C) helps to lighten up the skin. Try some Almond Oil (high in Vitamin E), which helps moisturise dry skin.

5. Add light reflective powders. Turmeric powder adds a youthful sheen to Indian skin.

6. Zinc is good to keep skin healthy. Besan (Chickpea flour) is a good source of Zinc.

7. Red ripened tomatoes are excellent as a diet and topical application for glowing skin. Tomatoes have Vitamin E, C, B1, B2, B6, and Lycopene. It also has Vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene.

How To Choose A Bridal Makeup Artist

The day you have always dreamt of is now approaching – your wedding. Your outfit has been finalised, your matching jewellery also and now to your makeup – possibly the hardest task of all. All eyes throughout the whole day will be on you…it’s time to turn your dreams into a stunning reality!

Why do you need a Makeup Artist?

Most women can do their makeup quite well themselves, however, on your wedding day is “quite well” good enough or do you seek that extra step forward and be pampered with lavish makeup products applied by a trained and qualified artist to seek that special stunning look that makes your skin and complexion look flawless. A look that will astound everyone on the day and be remembered by you and your husband in your wedding photos.

Which Makeup Artist is Best for Me?

RESEARCH, RESEARCH and RESEARCH!

There are so many makeup artists who offer a bridal makeup service. Many are well-qualified and their portfolio suggests so, however many have decided to take up a freelance role to earn some extra money. The latter are a lot cheaper and do not be fooled or taken in by them, they should be analysed with caution. This article does not suggest that the cheaper makeup artists are not as good as the more expensive ones, this article merely suggests you view their portfolio and seek guidance from those who have used their services before. A site such as this should help in identifying honest testimonials from real brides who have gone through what you are about to embark on.

Skin complexions are as important as the brand of makeup you use so ensure you maintain a healthy diet and keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water and cutting down on foods such as sweets and chocolates (the most popular cause of blemishes and spots).

Approaching Makeup Artists

We suggest you start looking into makeup artists as soon as you are aware of the date of your wedding as the best makeup artists have such a reputation that they are booked up very early on and pretty much throughout the whole wedding season (which in England is typically between May and October).

A good place to start would be friends and relatives you know who have got married recently. Ask them who they approached, used and didn’t use and why. There’s no point re-inventing the wheel if the research has already been done. However, having said that – do not make the mistake of not using an artist that someone you know did not use as each artist can be a specialist in different skin types and they may be perfect for you.

Other points of reference can be wedding directories, magazines and wedding exhibitions. Searching on search engines such as Google can also help you as more and more makeup artists have websites displaying their work and services. we have included a Google search function at the top of this page for your convenience.

Initial Assessments

  1. What relevant qualifications / training does the artist have?
  2. How impressive is their portfolio? Does the makeup they have applied previously complement the client’s skin tone? Does it look natural?
  3. Does the artist have any ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots of the bride? This would be the acid test…
  4. How effectively has the makeup artist minimised flaws in their client skin? Any obvious blemishes / flaws?
  5. Does the makeup artist have any recent testimonials on the website? Do the testimonials complement only makeup artistry or personality too? Remember, getting your makeup done on your wedding day is stressful so the artist should have the communication skills to put you at ease
  6. Is the artist willing to travel to your house on the day of the wedding? Is there a charge for travel? If so, factor this into your budget.
  7. How do trials work? Are they chargeable? If so, factor these in your budget.
  8. Clarify if accessories like false eyelashes, nails, bindis or shimmers are included in the package cost and if not, how much extra these are likely to be.
  9. Moreover ask about the brand of cosmetics going to be used on your face. Make sure to have the best brand cosmetics applied.
  10. You should enquire about the prices and discounts applicable booking makeup for multiple events.
  11. Enquire if the makeup artist also offers hair styling services or if they have a partner who can do this. It’s important your hair and makeup complement each other.
  12. Is the makeup used long-lasting and waterproof? Weddings can be quite emotional.
  13. How prompt and informative are calls / emails replied to? This will give you a good indicator of customer service and attitude.

The Makeup Trial

Schedule this in promptly so you can judge the artist skills yourself, and if not totally happy you have time to move on to the next one. Make sure you have your outfit and jewellery to hand so that the artist can create your total final look with matching colours and tones.

Have you seen any looks you would like tried? If so, provide them to the artist so that they can visualise what you require . Also mention any skin allergies or preferred products so that they can be taken into account.

Observe hygiene standards and ensure the artist washes their hands and tools prior to touching your face. Most of all give honest feedback. If you like something, tell the artist…if you don’t like something tell them you don’t and why. Communication is key and can help clear up and misunderstandings.

Booking your Artist

  1. Ensure you are given a contract signed by both the artist and yourself.
  2. When paying a deposit, ensure you get a receipt.
  3. Make sure the contract states that the artist who you have chosen will be the one who does your makeup on the day.
  4. Ensure the contract specifies time, date and venue of the booking.
  5. If the makeup artist does not turn up on the big day, what is the refund policy
  6. Is the artist insured? If so, ensure the grievance policy in the contract states how you can claim for damages should you not be happy with the final result.

Now that you have booked your preferred artist, sit back and relax as the most important part of your day is taken care of. On the day, be natural and relaxed with confidence in your artist – after all they are your choice of artist and talent. Good luck!
